But here’s the thing about Tuesday: it’s not really the story. It’s the hinge.
Wednesday, rain chances jump to 75%. That’s not a typo El Paso goes from a fifth of a chance to three-in-four almost overnight, and the high drops to 73. Thursday’s still soggy at 55%, then Friday starts drying out again (15%), and by the weekend we’re back to 85-87 degree days with barely any rain in sight.
So really, this week has three acts: the last gasp of summer heat (Monday), a brief calm (Tuesday), and a genuinely wet middle stretch (Wednesday-Thursday) before it swings back to warm and dry for the weekend.
Why the sudden dump of rain midweek? Late September is when the North American monsoon is winding down, but it doesn’t always go quietly moisture pulses from the Gulf of California or the Gulf of Mexico can still sneak into West Texas even as temperatures start easing off for fall. That’s probably what’s fueling Wednesday’s spike.
