A representative for Gigi Hadid addressed the situation in a statement to local news, explaining that the 28-year-old model had marijuana with her, which had been legally purchased in New York City, where she held a medical license for its use.
During court proceedings, both Gigi Hadid and Leah Nicole McCarthy admitted to the illegal importation of marijuana and smoking instruments. Fortunately for them, after paying a $1,200 fine, they were able to avoid more severe penalties. In the Cayman Islands, such charges can carry a prison sentence of up to three years with hard labor and, in some cases, a fine of $20,000, as per local law.
