Story Plot of ‘The Little Mermaid’

The film opens with an enchanting musical number, “Fathoms Below,” that introduces us to the world under the sea. We meet Ariel and her best friends, Flounder and Sebastian, as they sing and swim through the coral reefs. Ariel is immediately drawn to the world above and spends her days collecting human artefacts and admiring the ships that pass by overhead.

Ariel’s fascination with the human world intensifies when she falls in love with Prince Eric, a human she saves from drowning during a storm. Determined to be with him, Ariel strikes a deal with the villainous sea witch, Ursula. Ursula agrees to transform Ariel into a human, but in exchange, she must give up her voice and win Eric’s love within three days, or she will belong to Ursula forever.

The rest of the film follows Ariel’s journey as she navigates the human world, learns to communicate without her voice, and tries to win Eric’s heart. Along the way, she must also contend with Ursula, who is determined to sabotage her plan and claim Ariel’s soul for herself.
