The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Tuesday revealed its shortlists for the Oscars 2023 Nominations in 10 categories. These comprise documentary and international features as well as a documentary on a short subject, original score, original song, makeup and hairstyling, animated short, live-action short, sound, and visual effects.
Fifteen International features the most unique out of the films from 92 countries and regions that were eligible. The list includes:
Close (Belgium),
Decision to Leave (South Korea),
All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany),
Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s Bardo (Mexico) and
Joyland, (Pakistan its first shortlisted film in the category.
This time Pakistan got its first film to be shortlisted for Oscar 2023 nominations.
India made its international entry into the nominations list with Last Film Show (Chhello Show). Another Indian film, RRR, also hit the shortlist in the category of the most energetic song “Naatu Naatu.” All Quiet on the Western Front was furthermore shortlisted for makeup and hairstyling, score, sound, and VFX.
Three of the biggest female music stars on the planet – Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga shortlisted for Oscar 2023 Nominations for the best original song for
“Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,
“Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing, and
“Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick.
The three stars had formerly been nominated for Golden Globes and Critics Choice Awards in the same category for the same songs.
These would be the first Oscar nominations for Rihanna and Swift; the fourth for Gaga, who was previously nominated in this category for “Til It Happens to You” from The Hunting Ground (2015) and “Shallow” from A Star Is Born (2018), which won the award.
Nominations voting will start from Jan. 12-17, and nominations will be announced on January 24.
The 95th Oscars in 2023 are scheduled to be held on March 12 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
